MEDIATION SERVICES

Mediation Services

While every marriage starts with the promise of happily ever after, approximately 50% of first marriages and up to 67% of second marriages end in divorce. When they do, couples are left to decide whether to Mediate or Litigate. Dr Karla is experienced in divorce mediation and can help couples when happily ever after ends in divorce.

What is Divorce Mediation?

Divorce Mediation is a confidential, non-adversarial form of conflict resolution where a divorcing couple comes together with a neutral third party to facilitate the negotiation of a divorce agreement as an alternative to costly divorce litigation.  Participating in such a process allows the couple, not the courts, to dictate the terms of their divorce by working with a mediator to facilitate an agreement that is both fair and equitable based on their unique, personal circumstances.

Finalizing the Process

Through the mediation process, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be drafted which will include the tenants of the agreement. At the conclusion of mediation, a final version of the MOU will be provided along with any other information that will be pertinent to your divorce.  Since a final divorce judgment can only be entered by a judge, the party initiating the divorce, the plaintiff, must appear in court, thus, the signing of a marital (divorce) settlement agreement does not divorce you, the final Prove Up stage, upon the signing of the judge does!
If requested, we can offer referrals to general counsel who, for a reduced fee can review and file your court documents at the final “prove up” phase.

Why Mediation?

In a word, mediation works by putting the decision making process back into YOUR hands, rather than the courts.  It allows the two of you to agree to the terms of YOUR divorce.

YOUR MIND IS A POWERFUL THING. WHEN YOU FILL IT WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS YOUR LIFE WILL START TO CHANGE.
